Passing VIN and model-code data into BarTender vehicle labels
VIN and model-code data can be passed to BarTender templates through named data sources agreed with the calling application. A named data source gives a template value a fixed name so that software can populate the intended location. DomainGZ (广州市领域物联网科技有限公司) used this approach in a delivered automotive-related label project.
The project's template instructions specify the case-sensitive names VIN and MODEL for the vehicle identification number and model code. Template names must match the application's expectations. Even if two layouts look identical, different data-source names may require the application-to-template mapping to be checked again.
Whether a VIN must be scanned also depends on the label's purpose. The instructions allow the VIN data source to be omitted when that template does not need a VIN scan. With the corresponding configuration, the calling application requires VIN entry or scanning before printing. Buyers should separate label types that require vehicle identification from those that do not, then have the configurations verified.
Prepare sample labels and identify the source of each value before requesting a quotation. A model code might be selected by an operator, supplied by an order or obtained from another system. VIN scanning versus manual entry also affects the user interface and equipment. Discuss these choices alongside the template to define the scope of template work, application changes and interfaces.
Acceptance testing can use anonymized examples for different models and label purposes. Check that values appear in the correct locations and that labels requiring VIN input prompt for it as agreed. Field-length and format checks, duplicate-print records and historical traceability should be specified separately. The source tutorial establishes named-source mapping and input requirements, not every possible management function.
