Printing retail price labels from Excel with the BarTender SDK

A household and personal care retailer used Excel to collect store price-label data, including brand, product code, name, primary barcode, regular price, promotional price and promotion dates. The workflow needed to validate the agreed fields, pass them to BarTender templates, and let operators search, select and stop batches.

The custom application checks the worksheet structure before importing product data into a local store. Operators can filter by brand, product code, name, barcode and promotion dates, then select individual records or process the current list. When printing, the application uses the BarTender SDK to open a regular or promotional BTW template. It writes values to named data sources already defined in the template and sets the printer and identical-copy count.

The batch submits products one at a time and provides pause, resume and cancel controls. Missing template files or unconfigured data sources produce a prompt. After printing, the relevant records' selection and print status are updated to reflect the application's task handling.

The delivered project connects Excel import, field mapping, template loading and batch printing. Implementation starts by confirming the Excel column names, data formats, label templates and print-task handling rules.

Procurement questions

Can it import any Excel file? The implemented workflow expects fixed column names and a defined structure. The source spreadsheet must be checked against that format.

Can it print both regular and promotional labels? Template selection follows promotion dates and the current print rules. A switch also supports preparing promotional labels in advance.

Can an operator stop a batch? The application can pause, resume or cancel between product tasks. Jobs already submitted to the printer queue remain under that queue's control.
