A product may need different label layouts during regular and promotional periods. A household and personal care retailer wanted its printing client to use promotion dates and promotional-price fields when choosing the template, avoiding repeated manual BTW file changes for individual products.

Before submitting a print task, the custom application checks the current time. It selects a promotional template when the promotion has started and has not expired; otherwise it uses the regular template. A product-specific template takes precedence. If none is configured, the application falls back to the global default. It then writes brand, name, barcode, regular price and promotional price to the template's named data sources.
Desktop and PDA clients use the same regular-versus-promotional selection approach. Manual regular and promotional options support preparing the required label type in advance. If the default template is missing or its data sources are not configured, the current flow stops with a prompt.
The delivered project supports date-based selection and manual selection. Promotion types, pricing rules and approval steps need to be agreed against the customer's business system at the start of implementation.
Procurement questions
When is a promotional template used? Once the start time is reached and before expiry. Records without an end time can also enter promotional selection after the start time.
What if a product has no dedicated template? The global regular or promotional default is used.
Can an operator choose the type manually? Yes. The operator can select regular or promotional printing, one mode at a time.
